Manel Jané Vidal built his first pushchair in Barcelona in 1932 for his son Ramón, after his father challenged him to be inventive. Friends and neighbours were so encouraging that he went on to build another couple of pushchairs which folded up. After showing the folding pushchairs to a Barcelona department store, the orders came in a week later.

Taking a particular interest in child safety, Jané also design and test car seats. In 2003, they built the Jané Crash Test Research Centre, the only private test laboratory in Spain for child safety research.
